Memorable moments!

The last couple days have been jam packed, as always, but this time with memorable moments.

While I was watching Caitlin running at cross country practice last night it hit me that in the amount of time she has been alive, double that.... and she is in high school. It scares me! Where does the time go?

- It goes laughing at Carson when he belts out "DEACON RAY" in the middle of the family room for no reason. (He is a Deacon at our parish and Carson hardly has seen him, he has just picked up on his name in conversation).

- Like when I ask Caitlin if there was anything special in her lunch box and she replies "YOU"

- Time goes by watching Carly take countless steps across the sidewalk while waiting for Caitlin to get off the bus, then she breaks into sheer excitement as the bus approaches and nearly runs for her big sister.

- Now the time has passed that Carly no longer gets a bottle at night before bed and there is no more rocker in her room to take a bottle in... she now does the Koomen routine... milk and dry cereal in the family room while playing, reading or watching home videos, then brush teeth and off to bed.

- Time also has happened in a fast forward sort of way when Caitlin asked for countless books to be read to her... to Caitlin reading chapter books by the heaps and piles.

Time is an amazing gift, but it is the kind that you rip through and forget who gave it to you!

Fabulous September Weekend!

Carson surrounded by a group of girls that we do not even know!
Happy birthday to you!!

The weather could not have been more wonderful! We started off the weekend with Carson and Caitlin attending the Homecoming parade with Angie. They had a blast, especially when the picture message I received on my phone was titled "cavities." This message brought to you by our very own Dental Hygienist, Angie. Upon their arrival home it was their father saying, no more candy today or for the rest of the weekend, as he viewed the shopping bag loaded to the handles with SUGAR! No need to go trick-or-treating!

The kids came home and awaited the 9 p.m. arrival of Jade and Josie, and of course Aunt Lisa. Saturday morning came early, especially for me since it was a friends night out at the 9:45 showing of "THE WOMEN." Caitlin had soccer pictures at 8 a.m. before her 9 o'clock soccer game. She was great, even with a cough, she scored two goals. We missed her cross country meet in Toledo because of the soccer conflict, so no running report.

We managed to celebrate Jason's 33rd birthday with pizza and Dairy Queen ice cream cake... (see photos) Our friends, the Reeds came as well as Lauri and Jeff to have cake with us. He finished his 100 mile running goal for the week, so he had a great day!

Sunday we participated in Church aerobics. That involves up and down the aisles heading to the back of church with one loud Carly. Back and forth, up and down, digging through the diaper bag for entertainment, head crashing into the pew, some crying, and some sweating... but, we survived yet another week of church near the front for an hour and a half of what is supposed to be time with God. I keep saying as I walk out, I am going to hire a babysitter... Jason says church is family time, and keeps me grounded. :)

At home the kids help dad to wash his car on the front lawn... what a hoot! I look out and they are washing bikes, wagons, and splashing around together. Carson asks for a "washclosh" to clean off the Radio Flyer tricycle. Then onto riding their bikes in swimsuits and tennis shoes. Oh, they are grasping onto the last warm days of the year.

Look out for the busy week to come...

First Grade Field Trip to Oakwoods!

Caitlin had a field trip yesterday to Oakwoods Nature Preserve. I was elected to drive five first graders to the park. It was so fun to be in the front seat and listen the girls constant cackling and the boys discuss how they should switch seats on the return home. It was a field trip about bugs and when one of the station guides (pregnant at that) was letting a daddy long legged spider climb all over her, I was just hoping that she did not ask me to volunteer for that crazy circus act. On the return home we had to listen to the same song over and over and over because one of the boys loved it so much!

We had another soccer game last night in which it becomes an Olympic sport for me to walk across several fields, drag supplies for an 1 1/2 hours of entertainment, pass out constant snacks to the younger Koomens, socialize, and cheer on the redheaded soccer player. All the while Jason is on the sidelines trying to direct 6/7 year old girls where they need to be. It is so much fun, that by the time it is over I feel like I played the game with every bit of energy I had.

The best part of last night was taking the three kids to meet Jason's running group after the soccer game, which we were approaching the 8:00 p.m. eruption time (which is also known as bedtime). The meeting spot was at Buffalo Wild Wings, yes a restaurant. The kids held it better together than me, who ordered a simple dish of wings that took 25 minutes. I must not do well when I am starving. :)

Carson spent four hours of the day yesterday driving his gator non-stop. The front yard has been rolled compliments of our son. In between rides, he was playing church... collecting my money and giving me the host, and occasional bible reading. What a hoot.

It is a sweet day today with Caitlin having the day off. The breakfast table was hums of what they were going to do today. It included Carson dressing up in Caitlin's raincoat and boots to be a fireman. I decided he needs dress-up of his own, since he came upstairs dressed in purple leotard with his boxers on! I heard him tell Caitlin he loved her a lot at the breakfast table, and my heart sank. Her response, which I have to admit I was ready to reprimand, was "I love you more". It was a parental "ahh-hah" moment, and I could not have been more proud.

Carly is still being herself, the youngest most adored at the time. She is getting more teeth, hopefully since her two little lonely teeth are sick of doing all the work. She decides when it is a good time for her to walk or crawl. She climbs and stands on everything! Yes, I am going to need professional help to raise this child with patience.

We are off to get ready for daddy's big 33rd birthday tomorrow. Stay tuned for more Koomen humor.

August and September Happenings

It has been a crazy wind up to our summer here at the Koomen house. As you can see from the visual aids below, we have been busy.

Caitlin is back to school at St. Michael as a big first grader. She is busy with cross country, soccer, and school. We are taking a tennis break for now, since we have plenty of other extra curriculars. She celebrated her seventh birthday in style at Juju Beadz. The girls got to make necklaces and matching earrings, eat pizza and cake, and act like giggling seven year-old girls for two hours. It was so fun, but exhausting.

Carson has had some really exciting times over the last 6 weeks. We met the train engineer from the rail line that goes behind our house. Mr. Parish stopped the train at the back of our house to let Carson get on. I will get that video footage as soon as I transfer it to the computer :). Carson got on and made the train whistle sound and the lights go on. It was a very exciting day.

Carson also has figured out how to go down the water slide as well. It is great to see him enjoy the fun with the rest of the swimming population. He learned to swim without his "bubble" at the end of pool season too.

Carly is our daily challenge child. She is sweet, but has a nickname of "HOUDINI." She has a secret way to manuever in and out of any place she wants to go. She finally has more teeth coming in and a new mode of transportation, her feet.

I savor every moment with them, since my oldest is 7... UNBELIEVABLE.

As for Jason and I, we are greatful for his mom to be back at home. After a horrific bicycle accident she sustained multiple injuries and spent 6 weeks in the hospital. Jason is trying to make a trip there in late October to help her continue her healing process, and visit with his dad.

Enjoy the photos, we enjoyed the MOMENTS!
